There is a "liberal" group which is looking out for a muslim speaker for a meet to be held on sept 11&12 at the uptown campus
the topic is history of "" islamic fundementalisim""
Do you   think Imam MUkhtar would be interested and who else could represent the community

well I dont know if you know that there are two other suny campuses in albany
One in downtown which contains the dewy library and school of management
and the other 'school of public health'/east campus  in a ""god for saken'" place called east green bush where poor forgotten  souls like me exist  :)

So to us all lesser mortals the main campus is called the uptown campus and its a great occasion when we manage a visit  its hallowed grounds  ;)

Btw this my 101 post alhamdullilah I wonder if I will get my well deserved   ;) second star now

salaam

I am working with that group to put together the teach in . The topic is sep 11 why did it happen? they are having a famous retired navy admiral Eugene Carrol speak about US military expansion acorss the globe and build up etc. They wanted to have another speaker about globilization but i suggested that if we want to address the question why did sep 11 happen we need to talk about the rise of islamic fundemntalism as a reaction to the colonialsim of the 19th/20 century and the economic imperialism of today. I was thinking shikah muckthar as well but he is very busy and i wouldnt be surprised if he has a prior engagement on the 11th. Also since this lecture is not specifically spritually orienteded I dont know if he can give a historical account for the rise of islamic fundemntalism. I asked SUNY professor Dr Barbir if he would like to speak I just took a class with him about islamic fundmentalist movements he did a great job teaching it and he is very knowledgeable. I think he could do a very good job.

The  "teach in" is going to be uptown in one of the LC's and the second night on the 12 there will be another lecture called sept 11 what can we do which will focous on activiism, working for peace/justice, globilization, and campaign finance reform
